SS-31 Research Notes
What is SS-31?
SS-31 (also known as elamipretide or Bendavia) is a mitochondria-targeted tetrapeptide developed by Hazel Szeto and Peter Schiller at Weill Cornell Medicine. It is designed to penetrate the inner mitochondrial membrane and bind to cardiolipin — a phospholipid essential for mitochondrial membrane integrity and electron transport chain function.
By stabilising cardiolipin, SS-31 protects mitochondrial cristae structure, reduces reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, and supports ATP synthesis efficiency. It is one of the most studied mitochondria-targeted compounds in aging and cardiac research.
What the research shows
Cardiac function: Multiple animal studies show SS-31 reduces mitochondrial dysfunction and improves cardiac output following ischemia-reperfusion injury.
Aging: Aged mice treated with SS-31 show improved muscle function, reduced mitochondrial ROS, and better exercise capacity versus untreated aged controls.
ROS reduction: SS-31 significantly reduces mitochondrial reactive oxygen species production — relevant to oxidative stress models across multiple tissue types.
Human data: Phase II trials for heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) showed improvements in exercise capacity — one of the more advanced human data records for a mitochondrial peptide.
Ordering SS-31 in Bali
SS-31 is not a controlled substance under Indonesian BPOM regulations. Same-day delivery may be possible only after the team confirms the exact item, current availability, route, daily cutoff, complete villa or hotel address, and timing before ordering.
Common Questions
Q: How does SS-31 differ from MOTS-c?
MOTS-c is a mitochondrial signalling peptide that regulates metabolic homeostasis. SS-31 directly protects mitochondrial membrane structure and reduces ROS production. They target different aspects of mitochondrial health and are sometimes stacked together in longevity protocols.
Q: Is it commonly stacked?
SS-31 is often researched alongside NAD+ and MOTS-c as part of a comprehensive mitochondrial health stack, with each targeting different aspects of mitochondrial function.
Q: Storage?
Refrigerate at 2–8°C. Use within 28 days of reconstitution. Ships cold-packed.
