What is NAD+?
NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) is a coenzyme found in every living cell. It plays a central role in cellular energy metabolism — acting as an electron carrier in mitochondrial reactions that produce ATP, the body's primary energy currency. NAD+ levels decline with age, associated with reduced mitochondrial function, impaired DNA repair, and increased cellular senescence.
Research interest has grown significantly as studies link declining NAD+ to metabolic dysfunction, neurodegeneration, and reduced physical capacity. Restoring NAD+ levels is one of the most studied interventions in longevity research.
What the research shows
Mitochondrial function: Animal and cell studies show NAD+ restoration improves mitochondrial biogenesis and efficiency, particularly in aged subjects.
