What is Melanotan II?
Melanotan II is a synthetic analogue of alpha-melanocyte stimulating hormone (α-MSH) — a naturally occurring peptide regulating pigmentation, appetite, and sexual function via melanocortin receptors. Originally developed at the University of Arizona in the 1980s as part of photoprotection research.
It acts on the MC1 receptor to stimulate melanin production — producing a tanning response without UV exposure. It also acts on MC3 and MC4 receptors, mediating studied effects on appetite suppression and sexual arousal.
