Bacteriostatic Water Guide

What is Bacteriostatic Water?

Bacteriostatic water (BAC water) is sterile water for injection containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a preservative. The benzyl alcohol inhibits bacterial growth, allowing the same vial to be accessed multiple times without contamination — which is why it is the standard reconstitution solution for peptide research rather than standard sterile water.

Every lyophilised peptide we supply needs to be reconstituted before use. Using the correct reconstitution solution is one of the most important steps in maintaining compound integrity and sterility throughout your research protocol.

Why it matters for peptide research

  • Multi-use stability: Unlike sterile water, which should only be accessed once, BAC water remains sterile for up to 28 days after first use when stored correctly — matching the typical use window of a reconstituted peptide vial.

  • Compound stability: Most peptides reconstituted in BAC water remain stable for up to 28 days when refrigerated — the benzyl alcohol contributes to this stability.

  • Sterility: The 0.9% benzyl alcohol concentration is the pharmaceutical standard for bacteriostatic preservation — sufficient to inhibit bacterial growth without denaturing the peptide.

  • pH compatibility: BAC water is pH-neutral and compatible with the full range of peptides we supply.

Using BAC Water in Bali

Bali's heat makes sterility discipline more important than in cooler climates. Always store BAC water refrigerated after opening. We include appropriately sized BAC water with every peptide order — 3mL vials with single peptide orders, and 10mL vials with larger protocols or stack orders.

Common Questions

Q: Can I use regular sterile water instead?

Regular sterile water can be used for single-use reconstitution but does not contain a preservative — meaning the vial should be used in one session. For multi-dose protocols, BAC water is the correct choice.

Q: How much BAC water do I add to a peptide vial?

This depends on the peptide quantity and your target concentration. As a general reference, adding 1mL of BAC water to a 5mg vial gives a concentration of 5mg/mL. Adding 2mL gives 2.5mg/mL. Adjust based on your research dose.

Q: Storage?

Refrigerate after opening. Use within 28 days. Do not freeze.
